Already with a couple of new commitments in hand for the Class of 2027 this weekend, Penn State has added one more before the weekend comes to a close. Offensive lineman Jon Sassic, from Pittsburgh, has announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions following a weekend visit to the campus.
Sassic is rated as a three-star recruit according to his 247Sports recruiting profile. The Pittsburgh native measures 6-6 and 285 pounds and is rated as the 31st-best player overall in Pennsylvania. Sassic held notable scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, West Virginia, NC State, and Pittsburgh.
Sassic is projected to be an interior offensive lineman, but he does have some versatility to play multiple positions on the line of scrimmage.
Penn State extended an offer to Sassic in March, although he did attend a Penn State football camp in June 2025 and he had visited the campus as far back as 2024 under former head coach James Franklin.
The addition of Jon Sassic brings the Penn State Class of 2027 up to a total of 10 commits. Sassic is the second offensive lineman to commit in the class, joining Owen Reilly. Sassic is the fourth offensive player in the class, joining wide receiver Landon Blue and tight end Cooper Terwilliger.
The addition of Sassic to the recruiting class has helped Penn State move into the top-10 nationally in the latest recruiting rankings from 247Sports. Penn State is currently ranked No. 10 in the nation in the Class of 2027. Penn State is ranked fourth among Big Ten teams, trailing USC, , and , respectively.
