“From my info in Girona, he was unbelievable,” Guardiola insisted. “The reason why he went there, the age, he had maybe not much options to play here, he’s grown up as a player, and he did it!”
The transition from South American football to the tactical rigours of La Liga could be perceived as difficult, but Reis has thrived under the spotlight despite his relative inexperience in the senior game.
Guardiola further highlighted calibre of opposition as the catalyst for the defender’s rapid evolution, as he continued, “At the end, he’s faced the best strikers in Spain, and it’s not easy to deal with.

As Hugo Viana prepares for a summer of further squad alterations – including the expected departure of John Stones at the end of his current City contract – the question of whether Vitor Reis will be integrated into the first-team for the 2026/27 season remains a hot topic.
However, Pep Guardiola was notably careful not to commit to a definitive plan just yet, stressing that a final verdict on the Brazil international will be reached once the current silverware pursuit concludes.
“The decision that’s going to happen [on Vitor Reis’ future], we are going to take at the end of the season,” Guardiola confirmed.
