Pep Guardiola to block potential summer Savinho exit amid ongoing transfer rumours
Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola is reluctant to part ways with Savinho this summer amid growing interest from other Premier League clubs, according to reports.
The 22-year-old arrived at the Etihad Stadium from French side and fellow City Football Group club ES Troyes AC in July 2024 in a deal reportedly worth €40 million and initially on a contract running until 2029.
Last summer, Savinho attracted serious transfer interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who reportedly submitted two bids to Manchester City to acquire his signature, with Guardiola and other members of the club’s hierarchy turning down the move and retaining the winger.
Later, in October of last year, the Brazilian international signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2031, with an option of another year.
Despite having a long-term contract at City, Savinho has struggled to secure a spot in Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up this campaign, particularly in Premier League games, and has been linked with an exit as the summer transfer window approaches.

Savinho has struggled to earn minutes on the pitch in the ongoing campaign and also missed 16 games for Manchester City due to injuries, starting just five out of the 20 appearances he has made in the Premier League this season – during which he provided two assists.
Overall, he has featured in 30 matches across competitions for Manchester City, registering three goals and three assists. With 36 starts in 48 appearances last campaign, Savinho’s time on the pitch saw a decline, coinciding with Antoine Semenyo’s arrival from Bournemouth.
The Atletico Mineiro graduate’s lack of consistent game time under Pep Guardiola has led to reports linking him with an exit from the club, with rumours suggesting that Tottenham are still eyeing the player.
While several suitors are expected to line up for Savinho, offering the winger promising minutes on the pitch, Pep Guardiola is an admirer of his skills and not ready to let him go ahead of next season, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke.
O’Rourke explains that the Brazilian star’s possible move to Spurs last summer was prevented by Guardiola, and the Catalan manager is expected to do the same this time as he believes the player has a significant part to play in the upcoming campaign.
“It’s obvious that Guardiola is a big fan of him, and I don’t think he will be rushing him out the door because he knows that Man City will have so many games to play next season, so they’ll need a lot of depth and strength in that squad,” said O’Rourke.
Recent reports have suggested that Manchester City’s transfer plans for the upcoming window do not include signing a high-profile winger, especially following the arrivals of Rayan Cherki and Semenyo this season.
Jack Grealish made a season-long loan move to Everton in August last year, and his impressive form in the first half of the campaign has reportedly led to the Toffees considering a permanent signing for the English winger.
Manchester City are currently involved in an intense race with Arsenal for the Premier League title, now ranking top in the table with 70 points in 33 matches following a narrow 0-1 win at Burnley on Wednesday night.
After lifting the Carabao Cup earlier this year, Manchester City are now also aiming to win the FA Cup and face Southampton in the semi-finals of the competition on April 25.
It remains to be seen if Savinho decides to give another season a go at Manchester City, rising up to establish a consistent spot in Pep Guardiola’s starting squad, or part ways with the club for regular first-team football elsewhere.
