No. 3 Petersburg won the Bub Riggleman tournament, defeating Moorefield 17-1 in the final. The Vikings achieved five victories by run rule, showcasing strong offensive performance with 10 home runs throughout the tournament.
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — No. 3 Petersburg captured the Bub Riggleman tournament championship this weekend, winning all five games by run rule.
The Vikings (17-3) rolled 17-1 over Moorefield (10-10) in the title game Saturday. Cheyenne Sites ended the proceedings with a walk-off grand slam to force the mercy rule.
Petersburg beat Jefferson, 11-3, in the semifinals, Spring Mills twice, 10-0 and 10-2, and Hedgesville, 17-1.
The Vikings blasted 10 home runs across their five wins. Miley Tingler clubbed three for 13 runs batted in, Abi Nettles and Ella Markwell had two big flies each, and Lacey Moyers, Ella Chew (WVU Potomac State commit) and Sites hit one.
Shyane Tawney (.667 average), Tingler (.615) and Markwell (.600) all hit .600 or better.
Petersburg also received five complete-game victories from three different pitchers. Gracie Carpenter and Kinsley Crites recorded two each, and Moyers had the other.
Petersburg is at Pendleton County on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Moorefield walked off Musselman, 8-7, Saturday in the other semifinal on a first-pitch solo homer by Brenna See in the bottom of the seventh.
The host Yellow Jackets also defeated Williamsport, 16-8, Saturday and North Marion, 11-2, and Greenbrier West, 9-1, Friday.
See hit two other home runs during the tournament, Kerigan Bergdall hit two, and Gracie Simmons and Sara Baldwin garnered a homer each.
Simmons, who is committed to WVU Potomac State, caught all five games behind the plate over two days, including three contests Saturday.
Moorefield hosts No. 2 Keyser (12-3) on Monday at 6 p.m.
Hampshire (0-17) dropped its three games in the Bub Riggleman tournament, falling to Musselman, 16-3, Saturday and Pendleton County, 19-3, and Williamsport, 15-0, on Friday.
The Trojans hosts Moorefield on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Tingler was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Her teammates Carpenter and Tawney were made the all-tourney team.
Fellow area players on the all-tournament squad included See and Emmy Crites (Moorefield) and Kaitlyn Ferguson (Hampshire).

LAVALE — Jordyn Sneathen tossed a one-hit shutout to power No. 1 Allegany past Mountain Ridge for its 11th straight win.
The Campers (12-1, 5-0 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) scored three runs in the first inning and added four in the third.
Sneathen, a St. Francis signee, tossed seven shutout frames with 12 strikeouts to five walks for the win in the circle.
Sneathen, Mykah Baker (WVU Potomac State commit) and Savannah Walton doubled, and Walton and Baker had two runs batted in apiece.
Destinee Johnson was tabbed with the loss for Mountain Ridge (4-8, 0-3 WestMAC).
Allegany hosts Somerset, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Petersburg defeated Jefferson, Spring Mills twice, Hedgesville, and Moorefield to win the tournament.
Cheyenne Sites hit the walk-off grand slam in the championship game against Moorefield.
Petersburg hit a total of 10 home runs across their five tournament games.
Miley Tingler hit three home runs and drove in 13 runs during the tournament.

Frankfort bounced back from a doubleheader sweep Friday with two wins Saturday, defeating Lewis County, 10-0, and Robert C. Byrd, 5-4.
The Falcons (13-9) received a complete game from Peyton Kimble in a run-rule-shortened win over Lewis County. She tossed five innings of two-hit, shutout ball with seven strikeouts.
Claire Westfall had three hits, one a double, and Dayahna Imes also doubled.
Imes stranded the tying run at second base and walk-off run at first against Robert C. Byrd, inducing a game-winning groundout to earn the victory in the circle.
Frankfort’s Jordan-Marie Owens doubled, and Owens, Elizabeth Crowe and Kaitlyn Hudson all had multi-hit games.
Frankfort (13-9) was swept in a doubleheader Friday, falling to Lincoln, 7-5, and St. Marys, 11-8, at Lincoln High.
Against Lincoln, the Falcons led 4-0 after the first inning. Lincoln scored five runs over the next two and broke a 5-all tie with two in the fifth frame.
Riley Lynch doubled, and Imes, Owens, Sydney Robosson and Raygan Grogg singled twice each for the Falcons.
Kimble pitched a complete game in defeat, allowing seven runs (three earned) on seven hits in six innings of work.
Addison Moore tripled for Lincoln, and Brogan Sampson and Kerstyn Leggett doubled.
Frankfort fell behind 7-1 to St. Marys after four innings. The Falcons battled within two runs twice but couldn’t make up the difference.
Imes had three hits, Owens went 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, Robosson singled twice and drove in a pair, and Grogg and Crowe both had multi-hit games.
Kimble was tabbed with the loss for Frankfort.
St. Marys’ Alyssa Winland tripled, and Brylee McGrady doubled.
Frankfort hosts Berkeley Springs on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
