We’re pretty well established in the spring season now.
Sunny days, green grass, not bracing for the cold as we exit the house, it’s all back for us to enjoy.
So, taking a look back into winter, that’s a scary thought.
But, we’ll avoid any talk of that white stuff and highlight some good stuff one final time from the hardwood, with the full list of basketball honors finally released by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM).
Every year, BCAM releases its BCAM Best list comprised of all-state athletes, along with academic honors, team first and senior awards and coach of the year recognition.
Not surprisingly around Northern Michigan, one team in-particular cleaned up, from all-state player honors and coach of the year recognition, to academic honors as well.
The Petoskey girls basketball team raked in the honors from BCAM, from a pair of all-state players and regional coach of the year, to leading the state in GPA for team academic all-state honors.
Petoskey’s girls made a run to a Division 2 quarterfinal in 2025-26, compiling a 22-4 record behind district, regional and Big North Conference titles.
In doing so, they had freshmen Elaina Flynn and Ella Sulitis both named honorable mention all-state, while head coach Brooke Carlson was recognized as the BCAM Regional Coach of the Year in her second season leading the team.
Flynn finished her first season leading the point with 13 points a game, along with 2.8 assists and 3.3 steals. Sulitis, a starting center from day one, averaged 10 points, 7.1 rebounds and had 22 blocks on the season.
But, Petoskey wasn’t only impressive on the court this season, they also got it done in the classroom, leading the entire state of Michigan for both girls and boys basketball teams with a cumulative grade point average of 3.9847. That of course handed Petoskey academic all-state recognition.

Petoskey senior Kiley Bromley was also recognized with the team first award in Division 2.
Other area highlights from the BCAM list included Petoskey’s Braeden Flynn and Jace Shaw being named all-state honorable mention in Division 1, then Joe Gaffney, who returned to the court this season after a devastating injury, earned honors with Charlevoix.
Also on the boys side, Joshua Grondin of Pellston and Ben Strittmatter of Mackinaw City earned all-state, then Addy Burns of Boyne City, Harbor Springs’ Lillian McShannock and Inland Lakes’ Chloe Robinson were honored on the girls side.

Petoskey’s boys also compiled the second best Division 1 GPA this season at 3.8675, while Harbor Light Christian had the fifth best in Division 4 at 3.7302. Inland Lakes’ girls also impressed with a 3.9199 cumulative GPA.
A complete look at the annual BCAM honors for Emmet, Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Otsego Counties, along with the Eastern Upper Peninsula, can be found below.
Coaches must be a BCAM member for teams, players to receive recognition from the organization.
