PETOSKEY — In a test of the drainage at the Petoskey High School tennis courts, the Petoskey girls tennis team got its home 2026 schedule underway Tuesday, April 14.

Welcoming Alpena during a wet stretch on the calendar, the Northmen took advantage of a sunny day on the courts and earned an 8-0 victory in the home opener.

Petoskey’s doubles duos dominated the day, busting out double bagels all around. The doubles lineup didn’t drop a single set on the day.

Eva Rindfusz and Meg Gietzen of the No. 1 doubles team got the 6-0, 6-0 wins started, which were followed by Lucia Andrews and Lani Wang of No. 2 doubles, the No. 3 doubles team of Eliza Rogier and Paige Hubbard, then the No. 4 doubles pair of Fiona Boyer and Josie Pateman.

Petoskey's tennis team put on a total team effort to come away with an 8-0 sweep over Alpena in their first Big North Conference dual and home opener this week.

Singles victories came dominant for Petoskey as well, with Tara Brantly out of the No. 1 slot claiming a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

At No. 2 singles, Lola Clakre claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory, Lexi Wang topped her match in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 3 singles, then Ellie Daniel earned a 6-3, 6-0 win from No. 4 singles.

After Alpena, it’s a busy road stretch ahead for Petoskey, beginning with a trip to Traverse City West on Thursday, followed by a Holland Christian match Saturday, April 18 and a Bay City Central hosted event on Friday, April 24.

SOFTBALL

Ramblers sweep Inland Lakes

Boyne City softball started off 2-0 this week with 10-0 and 15-5 wins over Inland Lakes.

Sidney Bush tossed a five-inning no hitter in game one, giving up two walks with 13 strikeouts. She added a combined five RBIs.

Boyne City's Sidney Bush enjoyed a big opener, striking out 13 against Inland Lakes in a five-inning no-hitter.

Lily Payton also had two triples and three RBIs and Riley Thiel went 2-for-4 with two runs in game one, then drove in two runs in game two.

Harbor Springs tops Onaway

Wins of 10-6 and 7-3 lifted Harbor Springs softball to a 2-0 start against Onaway, led by a 4-for-4 game that included a triple and two RBIs from Marlie Richardson in game one. Richardson added a triple and two RBIs in game two as well.

Hadley Binko had three total RBIs, Mya Garber doubled and drove in two in the opener and Callie Keiser had three RBIs.

SOCCER

Harbor Springs earns league win

A total of eight different players helped the Harbor Springs girls soccer team to a win this week over Grayling, 8-0.

Goals were scored by Fran Warren, Keeler Brainerd, Maeve Riley, Makenna Brey, Sophie Barnadyn, Lilly Barnadyn, Meme Animikwam and Stefi Reskevics.

Sophie Barnadyn also had two assists in the game for the Rams.

Boyne City, Charlevoix play to draw

Kaelyn Matelski scored unassisted in the second half to help the Rambler girls come away with a tie against Charlevoix on Monday. Charlevoix scored on a first half penalty kick.

Piper Olivier recorded three saves for the Ramblers in goal.

BASEBALL

Harbor Light moves to 4-0

Harbor Light Christian’s Daniel Urman totaled nine RBIs and five hits, including two doubles, in a sweep over Boyne Falls on Tuesday. The Swordsmen won 19-4 and 17-2.

Isaac Bowman added a three-run home run in the doubleheader, Isaac Cope doubled twice and drove in five, then Johnny Urman earned a two-inning win in game two, striking out six. He also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the game.

Boyne City splits with Inland Lakes

Boyne’s Anderson Ward struck out 12 batters across 4 2/3 innings with four hits allowed in a 6-3 win over Inland Lakes this week. Jack Paquette also went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Boyne dropped the opener, 3-0, though Sully Cadarette struck out eight in the loss.
