- The shot damaged a broadcast camera.
- The ball nearly hit a spectator, creating a dangerous situation.
With the wind howling and the rough thicker than a pot of cheese whiz down at Geno’s, it’s been a dangerous week to be a spectator at the 2026 PGA Championshp. On Thursday, we saw Jon Rahm strike a volunteer in the face with a divot. On Friday, we watched as Bryson DeChambeau launched “fore right!” after “fore right!” into orbit. The most harrowing clip, however, came by way of 2023 U.S. Open champ Wyndham Clark, who gave a cameraman and fans a terrifying shave and a haircut with this wild pull hook on Friday. FORE FACE!

Holy hosel rocket, Batman. If you watch and listen closely, you can see that the ball strikes the broadcast camera and ricochets directly over the head of fan Abbie Brackin, who caught the near-miss moment on her cell phone. The shot was struck so powerfully, it even blew off a piece of the camera, as seen in these before and after images. It goes without saying that the damage this could have done to a human eye socket would have been catastrophic.

Thankfully, no one—other than that poor camera—was injured by Clark’s shot. Given the lie, however, it seems clear that fans should have not been standing where they were. The ball was below Clark’s feet, implying the likely miss would be to the right, but it rested on a deceptive up slope tilting back towards Clark’s stance. Even to the naked eye, it looks like an absolute pull factory. Add to that the windy conditions and a jumpy lie, and you have a recipe for the near disaster we saw here.
Someone, whether a PGA Championship volunteer, Clark, his caddie or even another fan should have told everyone to step back before Clark ever addressed the ball. Brackin seemed more annoyed by Clark’s reaction, or lack thereof—“@Wyndham Clark great shot I’m OK thanks" her caption reads—but let’s hope that this video is a reminder to fans on the grounds that it’s always better to step back than ask for an apology with a Titleist embedded in your forehead.
