The PGA Tour showed Brennanâs messy third shot on X with the caption âTarps off in New Orleans.â Initially, his club blasted through the wet bank, tossing mud into the air and onto Brennanâs bare torso and pants. Meanwhile, the ball dropped right back into the water.
âOh, my gosh,â the TV announcer said, even before Brennan attempted the ill-advised shot.
The most head-scratching part of the whole ordeal is the Zurich Classic is the PGA Tourâs lone regular-season team event. Because the first round features a best-ball format, Brennan could have taken a penalty stroke to move his ball out of the water and depended on partner Johnny Keefer.
As it turned out, Keeferâs ball was just off the green after two shots. Keefer came through. He turned in a par to keep the pair on track.
Through 14 holes â Brennan and Keefer started their round on the back nine â the duo stood at 7-under par and in a tie for sixth place. Sam Stevens and Zach Bauchou led the tournament at 11-under.
Brennan, 24, has one PGA Tour win in two seasons since leaving Wake Forest. He claimed the 2025 Bank of Utah Championship and has career earnings of $1.6 million.
Finally, the Zurich Classic continues through the weekend. CBS and Paramount+ will present coverage of the third and fourth rounds from 3-6 p.m. ET Saturday and Sunday.
