Rory McIlroy won The Masters for the second consecutive year, overcoming a challenging final round. Phil Mickelson congratulated McIlroy on social media after the victory.

Rory McIlroy successfully defended the Masters title he won 12 months ago on Sunday and Phil Mickelson took to his social media channels to congratulate the Northern Irishman.
The six-shot lead that McIlroy held at the halfway point evaporated during day three, and he began the final round of The Masters poorly as well.
However, the 36-year-old bounced back on the back nine and did enough to win by one from Scottie Scheffler in the end.

McIlroy was criticized during the final round of The Masters by some for his lethargic performance.
However, those who took aim at the now six-time major champion have well and truly been made to eat their words.
Mickelson has never quite seen eye-to-eye with McIlroy.
The two-time Masters champion was one of the biggest critics of Mickelson when he joined LIV Golf in 2022.
The Northern Irishman made his feelings very clear on the Saudi-backed golf league and he even labelled Mickelson as ‘egotistical and selfish’.

However, Mickelson clearly doesn’t hold any grudges.
He took to his official X account and praised McIlroy for his win at Augusta National on Sunday.
*“*Congrats to Rory McIlroy for an exciting Masters win. Back to back is simply remarkable,” the six-time major winning American said.
A seriously classy message from Mickelson, given the history between the two players.
McIlroy is now level with Mickelson on six major titles.
He is at the peak of his powers now, and will be intent on reaching double figures before he retires.
The 36-year-old is certainly capable of winning many more major championships.
Playing with a certain kind of freedom that he hasn’t had before certainly helped McIlroy at The Masters this week.
One more major win will take him above Phil Mickelson, Nick Faldo and Lee Trevino on the all-time list.
Would anyone back against him doing that this year? Surely not.
