One of the bright spots on the Philadelphia Phillies roster has been outfielder Brandon Marsh. Through 37 games, Marsh is leading Major League Baseball in hitting (.353) and is third on the team in RBI (21).
Marsh's turnaround after a demotion to Triple-A last season, when he went 0-for-29 in April, has been remarkable. Showing no signs of slowing down, Marsh received a boost of confidence from his new interim manager, Don Mattingly, and his teammate, designated hitter Kyle Schwarber.
According to Schwarber, Marsh has always had this level of play in him, dating back to when he rejoined the team on May 3, where he's hit .317 with an .852 OPS.
"He's always had it in him. I don't think there's ever been a doubt," said Kyle Schwarber to Jeff Kerr of 97.3 ESPN. "You can even just go back to last year. If you take away April, it's pretty good. It's always been there. I feel the more he's been able to go out there and do his thing and build that confidence and keep with his routine, great things are gonna happen. He has the right approach and he's never rushed up there."
Brandon Marsh is currently leading Major League Baseball with a .353 batting average.
Brandon Marsh has recorded 21 RBIs this season, making him third on the team.
Marsh's success is attributed to a boost in confidence from interim manager Don Mattingly and teammate Kyle Schwarber, following a challenging previous season.

Mattingly noted that Marsh will continue to progress as a hitter as he gets older.
"There's no reason he can't continue on," Mattingly said to Kerr. "This guy's a good hitter as he continues to get older," Mattingly said. "He's hitting both sides, lefties and righties. He's a good game planner. He's trying to do something specific every time he's up and understands what the other guy is doing. If he can do it for the stretch that he’s in, there’s no reason that he can’t keep doing it."
Marsh has progressed as a hitter through his big-league career. From his rookie year with the Angels, Marsh had a .254 batting average and .673 OPS, to hitting .353 with a .893 OPS in his fifth season with the Phillies.
With one more season remaining on his contract before becoming a free agent, Marsh is making a strong case to be a candidate for the Phillies to give him an extension.
