The Philadelphia Phillies have struggled offensively for much of the season. After players like Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, and Bryce Harper, the lineup has largely been inconsistent. One player in particular is Alec Bohm, who has posted some of the worst numbers at the plate this year.
“Alec Bohm is essentially the worst qualified hitter in the majors right now. He's batting .157 (16-for-102) with a .444 OPS. He has a single home run. Bohm has never generated much power, but he can't elevate or drive the baseball whatsoever right now. He's experiencing some bad luck (.224 xBA), but come on,” Christopher Kline wrote.
During the offseason, Bohm was frequently mentioned as a potential trade candidate or replacement target via free agency. Now, following his slow start and the Phillies’ need for more offensive production,
Alec Bohm is batting .157 with a .444 OPS and has hit only one home run this season.
The Phillies are considering releasing Alec Bohm due to his poor performance, making him one of the worst qualified hitters in the majors this season.
Bohm's struggles have contributed to the overall inconsistency of the Phillies' offense, which has been a significant issue for the team this season.

The challenge for Philadelphia is that Bohm is on an expiring contract, which could make it difficult to find a trade partner willing to take a chance on him, even for the remainder of the season. The third baseman has also had to deal with significant offseason noise that may have impacted his early performance.
In addition to trade speculation, Bohm dealt with off-field issues that became public at the start of the season, adding another layer to an already difficult situation.
Bohm is in a lawsuit with his own parents about misusing his money. This has also been on his mind as the season has continued to go on. While this is not physically a part of his game, it certainly affects the mental aspect.
Now, both of his parents are filing for the case to be dismissed. If the case is let go and nothing comes out of it, great. However, the longer this goes on, the more reason it gives for Philadelphia to send him on his way.
With the Phillies facing urgency to improve and Bohm continuing to struggle at the plate, exploring a trade may be the most logical next step. A move could provide a fresh start for Bohm and potentially help him regain form.
Philadelphia could also acquire a piece that helps address another need on the roster. Additionally, moving Bohm could open the door for top prospect Aidan Miller to be called up and make an impact.
