The Philadelphia Phillies have struggled early this season, with a record of 8-10 and tied for third in the NL East. After whiffing on Bo Bichette in the offseason, and All-Stars like Alec Bohm underperforming, the Phillies need something to help them bounce back.
FanSidedās Christopher Kline predicts that the Phillies could find their answer by continuing their trend of taking stars from a specific division rival, the Washington Nationals, and trade with them for All-Star CJ Abrams.
āWashington probably doesn't want to trade Abrams in the division, especially to a team with Trea Turner, and ā all former Nationals. Value is value, though, and the Phillies are in a position where the front office needs to be aggressive. After whiffing on Bo Bichette in the offseason, Abrams would be an awesome midseason pivot, allowing the Phillies to upgrade over Alec Bohm at third or at second. Few "contenders" more desperately need another bat to elevate the middle of their lineup,ā Kline wrote.
The Phillies are looking to replace Alec Bohm, who has underperformed, and believe CJ Abrams could enhance their lineup after missing out on Bo Bichette.
CJ Abrams has had a breakout season with a 1.175 OPS, making him an attractive trade target for the Phillies.
CJ Abrams could play third base or second base, providing a significant upgrade to the Phillies' middle lineup, which is in need of additional offensive power.

Abrams is having a career-best season, slashing .367/.458/.717/1.175 with three doubles, six home runs, 19 RBI and four stolen bases in 17 games. Plug him in over Bohm at third, and the Philliesā offense could easily return to life, and thatās not even the best part.
That part being his price. Heās only set to make $4.2 million this season, and still has two more years of arbitration after. For a Phillies team thatās shelling out for veterans, getting a young star for cheap should be incredibly attractive.
Hopefully, the Phillies find a way to get Abrams, as he could be their future post-Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber.
