The Phillies released outfielder Pedro Leon over the weekend, but he's returned to the NL East club on a minor league deal, according to Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors.
Leon is dealing with a right hamstring strain, so Philadelphia could not place him on waivers. Because he was on the minor league injured list, they were forced to release him in order to put infielder Felix Reyes on the roster.
In 2024, Leon played seven games with the Houston Astros but managed just two hits in 21 trips to the plate. The Phillies claimed him off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles during the offseason.

In 12 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley before his hamstring injury, the 27-year-old hit .283/.358/.326 with 19 strikeouts in 53 plate appearances.
Leon may not see the field for a few weeks, but the Phillies are obviously confident in his ability to bounce back and serve as outfield depth.
