Though Alex Cora turned down an offer to manage the Philadelphia Phillies less than a week after being fired by the Boston Red Sox, the Phillies remain confident that the World Series champion will be the team's manager next season.
"While Alex Cora will be the hottest free-agent commodity this winter, the Phillies are confident that he will be managing their team in 2027," USA Today's Bob Nightengale wrote on Sunday. "Cora also is expected to be wooed by the Houston Astros and New York Mets."
After an incredibly slow start to the regular season, the Red Sox made the surprise move to part ways with Cora, who managed the team for parts of seven seasons across two stints. Despite Boston's struggles early on this season, Cora is still widely viewed as one of the best managers in baseball, as evidenced by Philadelphia instantly offering him its manager role after parting ways with Rob Thomson.
Philadelphia's president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, had nothing but praise for Cora despite turning down his offer to be the Phillies' next manager.
