After years of success but continual struggles to get over the hump in October, the Philadelphia Phillies have fired manager Rob Thomson, according to The Athletic's Matt Gelb.
While Don Mattingly takes over, there are questions about whether the Phillies would bring in Alex Cora, who was just fired by the Boston Red Sox, to reunite with Dave Dombrowski in Philadelphia.
However, it looks as if the Phillies won't be bringing in Cora to be their manager, as they're seemingly sticking with Mattingly.
"The Phillies are Don Mattingly's team for now with no plans to bring in Alex Cora or anyone else at this juncture," USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports.
It's a noteworthy report from Nightengale, as there was some speculation that Cora could come to Philadelphia to take over for Thomson after the Phillies manager was fired.
Of course, there would've been a lot of complications behind such a change, but for now, it doesn't look likely that Cora will be coming to Philadelphia this year.

But at least for the rest of the 2026 regular season, after the first 28 games resulted in a brutal 9-19 record, the Phillies look to be turning to Mattingly only as their Thomson replacement.
