The Philadelphia Phillies have had a rough start to the 2026 season, with a record of 8-10 and in fourth place in the NL East. With multiple slumping hitters, they just seem unable to string some wins together.
All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm is one of the main slumpers, and at this point, it may be time to move on from him. Sports Illustrated’s Patrick McAvoy believes so as well, and proposes the Phillies make a trade to upgrade from him, landing Houston Astros two-time All-Star Isaac Paredes.
The trade would look like this:
Phillies get: INF Isaac Paredes
Astros get: RHP Taijuan Walker, PHI No. 7 prospect OF Dante Nori, PHI No. 14 prospect RHP Wen-Hui Pan
“The Phillies surprisingly need some more offense. Paredes isn't a perfect fit, but with both Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott struggling, find a way to work in his bat across the infield or DH, if Kyle Schwarber needs a day. The Astros need pitching of any kind. That's not to say Walker is having a good season so far, but this would be a starting point at least. The Astros also need a lefty-hitting outfielder. Nori is an intriguing prospect in Double-A. Throw in another pitching prospect and see if the Astros are willing to talk,” McAvoy wrote.
Paredes has been pushed to the bench this season, and his stats reflect it; he’s hitting .208/.344/.283/.627 with six RBI, which is still better than Bohm. However, he started most of the 2025 season before the Astros reunited with Carlos Correa, where he slashed .254/.352/.458/.809 with 15 doubles, 20 home runs, and 53 RBI in 102 games.
Paredes as a whole is probably better than Bohm, and he won’t be a free agent until after next season. If the Phillies are smart, they’ll start crafting a proposal to send to Houston right away.
