The Pittsburgh Pirates have seen a lot more success this season than in years prior, and it's thanks to the offensive surge from a few key hitters.
Oneil Cruz, Konnor Griffin, Ryan O'Hearn, and Brandon Lowe have led the improved offense this season. Now, the Pirates can begin to explore possible additions to the offense at the trade deadline.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report named young lefty Hunter Barco as the team's top trade chip this season, and then brought up a potential deal they could use the 25-year-old pitcher in.
"He has good strikeout stuff and legitimate long-term potential, but the 25-year-old is probably more valuable to the 2026 Pirates as a trade chip than as a member of the pitching staff." Miller writes. "Shipping him to for and a supplementary piece or two could make sense."

Barco, the young lefty with plenty of years of control left through 2031, is a valuable trade chip. And with a need to upgrade the offense at the catcher spot, this hypothetical trade would be an ideal move for the Pirates and a smart move for the Twins, too.
Trading Barco, the 25-year-old lefty pitcher who has a 7.71 ERA in five outings this season, to the Twins for their veteran catcher, Ryan Jeffers, would make sense.
As Miller notes, the Pirates would likely get a few other pieces back in return than just Jeffers for this deal, as Barco is more valuable than Jeffers due to the difference in control.
Barco is under club control through the 2031 season, while Jeffers will be a free agent after this season.
Jeffers is making $6.7 million this season and would be a fantastic trade candidate for the Pirates to acquire to bolster their catcher production offensively.
He has a .286 batting average this season with four homers and an .867 OPS and 140 OPS+ in 110 plate appearances.
Jeffers would be a massive upgrade over Henry Davis and Joey Bart, and would give the Pirates the extra spark of offense they need to be serious postseason contenders.
Barco is a bit expendable, and if they could get Jeffers and add a few other low-level prospects, this could be a win-win for the Pirates and Twins as they get players that better-fit their needs and lineups.
