To say that Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff was unhappy with the referees during his team's 112-103 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the second-round series between the teams would be an understatement.
Bickerstaff absolutely ripped the zebras to shreds after the game for what he views as one-sided officiating since the series shifted to Cleveland for Games 3 and 4. The Pistons dropped both of those games after winning the first two games of the series at home.
"It's unacceptable, It is. We didn't do enough, obviously to help ourselves, and I'll start there. But ever since we came to Cleveland, the whistle has changed. There's no way that one guy on their team shoots more free throws than our team," Bickerstaff said.
"We're not a settle team, we're not a jump-shooting team. We drive the ball, attack the paint. So what was done out there tonight, it's frustrating, but we can't allow that to be the reason why, because we didn't play well enough and play to the best of our capabilities. But you look at the foul count, you look at the disparity, and that's hard to overcome. And you wonder why."
Bickerstaff criticized the referees for one-sided officiating, stating it was 'unacceptable' and that the whistle changed since the series moved to Cleveland.
The Pistons won the first two games at home but lost both Games 3 and 4 in Cleveland, making the series tied at 2-2.
The final score of Game 4 was 112-103 in favor of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bickerstaff added that he thinks the way the series has been officiated has shifted since Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson made some public comments about the officiating prior to Game 3.
"Since Kenny made his comments publicly about us, the whistle has changed in the series," Bickerstaff said.
A quick glance at the box score from Game 4 would show that Bickerstaff might have a point. The Cavaliers shot 34 free throws in the game, compared to 12 for the Pistons. That's an enormous disparity for a game, even if one team is more aggressive than the other.
With the series now tied at two games apiece, we'll see if Bickerstaff's comments have any impact on the way the series is called moving forward.
