Plymouth Argyle captain Joe Edwards has been offered a new contract by the League One club.
The 35-year-old, whose deal expires this summer, is the longest-serving player in the Pilgrims' squad having made 280 appearances and scored 24 goals since joining from Walsall in the summer of 2019.
Edwards led Argyle to the League One title in 2023 when they accrued a club-record 101 points and scored the goal that kept Argyle in the Championship on the final day of the following season in a 1-0 win over Hull City.
The former Bristol City, Yeovil Town and Colchester United player also had a spell as caretaker coach after Wayne Rooney left last season, helping the club win 1-0 at Premier League side Brentford in the FA Cup third round.
"There's a contract offer going into Joe today, so as long as Joe doesn't come and ask for a double or triple his salary, then I'm hoping the two parties can come to an agreement," head coach Tom Cleverley said.
"If it was up to me, obviously Joe Edwards is in my team next year.
"There's obviously the club and the player and the agent and the technical director, but me as the head coach - and that's why I'm a head coach, because I don't completely control recruitment and contracts - I want Joe Edwards in my team next year."
Cleverley is also keen on signing loan players Wes Harding, and Alex Mitchell on permanent deals this summer.

Harding, who joined on loan in January from Millwall, and Oxford United's Dale are out of contract at the end of this season.
Charlton's Mitchell has a year left on his deal at The Valley having had an impressive season-long stint at Home Park.
"They're three real key parts of the team and I'll be having conversations to hopefully let me see a little bit more of them," he told BBC Radio Devon.
"I feel like I'm pricing us out with how many compliments I'm paying them, but they love it here.
"Wes Harding in January, when his situation at Millwall was what it was, he couldn't have wanted to play for this football club more.
"We want as many guys like that as possible, so yes, we've got the here and now to focus on, but Wes and Owen will be players that we'll be interested in seeing more of.
"Mitch is going to have a lot of interest. I don't know what Charlton's plans are with him, that's probably one for the off-season.
"I think if he is available then we've put our hat in the ring in terms of how much he's enjoyed it, what a key figure he is, how connected he is to the supporters, and those things all matter, as well as the key thing which is the money we can offer."
