Possible Trade Partners For The Saints For Alvin Kamara
It has been an interesting week of discussion about Alvin Kamara, the New Orleans Saints, and his future with the Saints. Kamara appeared on Terron Armstead's podcast and stated he's excited to get to work with Travis Etienne. Tyrann Mathieu appeared on his podcast and said the relationship between the two sides is strained at the moment, and the GM and head coach haven't been all-in on Kamara sticking around.
Oh, and there is the little matter about Kamara's money becoming guaranteed at the top of next month.
Mathieu doesn't believe Mickey Loomis will outright cut Kamara, so a trade for the 30-year-old running back is the new point of discussion.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has identified two possible teams interested in trading for the running back's services.
"To be clear, it very much sounds like running back Alvin Kamara would prefer to remain with the New Orleans Saints for another run, even after they signed Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year, $48 million contract.
"I'm excited to see what we could do together," Kamara told The Set podcast (h/t NFL.com's Grant Gordon). "...That's the name of the game, shoot. Depth—one person can't do it by themselves, so, I'm cool with it, man."
However, the Saints may not be quite as eager to keep the 30-year-old Kamara. They brought back Devin Neal, Kendre Miller, and Audric Estimé, signed Etienne and Ty Johnson, and added CJ Donaldson as an undrafted free agent.
While Kamara is on the roster now, that could change after June 1. After that date, the Saints would save $456,741 in cap space by trading him. Moving him before June 1 would cost $7.6 million in additional 2026 cap space.
While New Orleans is unlikely to get a massive return for an aging back, Kamara's dual-threat ability should warrant some interest from running back-needy teams. The Saints will be more likely to accept a bargain offer once the cap hit of moving Kamara becomes more manageable."
Potential Suitors: Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs
Any move for Kamara would have to happen after June 1st. Cutting the running back doesn't seem likely since it appears Kamara still has plenty in the tank. Being part of a split backfield isn't new to Kamara, who spent his early years splitting work with Mark Ingram.
While specific teams are not mentioned, discussions suggest that several teams may be interested in trading for Kamara as the Saints evaluate their options.
Kamara's contract is set to become guaranteed at the beginning of next month, which is prompting discussions about his future with the Saints.
Tyrann Mathieu indicated that the relationship between Kamara and the Saints is strained, suggesting that the team's management is not fully committed to keeping him.

The most efficient version of Kamara will have to be in a split backfield. Dallas and Kansas City make sense. The Chiefs, more so, since Kenneth Walker can be the two-down back and Kamara can pick up the slack on third down.
