Potential Raiders draft target gets positive medical diagnosis

The excitement for the Raiders draft start right away on Thursday night. But the intrigue begins on day two. They have the fourth pick in the second round on Friday and a potential draft target of theirs just shared some good news on his timeline for return from an injury.

Florida DT Caleb Banks injured his foot early last season. Though the foot would eventually need surgery, Banks rushed his rehab to be able to return to the field for the Gators' final two games.

His returned showed the injury was not a long term issue. Even still, once the offseason came, he got his surgery. With the Draft set to begin on Thursday, Banks got a CT scan and the results were positive, showing he is on pace to return in time for June minicamp.

The Raiders have a glaring need at defensive tackle and this 6-6, 327-pounder is solidly on their draft radar. He was a first round caliber talent prior to the injury, which is expected to cause him to slide into Round two, but no farther. That makes him a strong candidate for Las Vegas to select him with their pick at 36 overall.

In fact, Banks is the very player who I have pegged for the Raiders with their pick at 36 overall in my seven-round Raiders mock draft.

Yes, with any injury, there is some risk. But the potential reward Banks presents is higher, especially considering that we are talking about a day two pick, not a top pick.
