NEW DELHI: Punjab Kings surged to the top of the IPL 2026 standings with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians, extending their winning streak while handing the hosts a fourth straight defeat at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Despite a superb century from Quinton de Kock, MIās total of 195/6 proved inadequate against a rampant PBKS chase led by Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shreyas Iyer.

Put in to bat, MI were rocked early and slumped to 15/2 inside three overs, but de Kock produced a masterclass in his first appearance of the season after replacing injured former skipper Rohit Sharma. The South African left-hander struck an unbeaten 112 off 60 balls, registering his third IPL century for a third different franchise.
He shared a defining 132-run stand with Naman Dhir, who made a gritty 50 after being promoted up the order. The pair revived MI from collapse, with de Kock dominating through crisp drives and powerful leg-side hitting. However, the innings slowed in the death overs, preventing MI from crossing the 200 mark.
Arshdeep Singh starred with the ball, picking up 3/22, while MI also suffered from missed chances in the field.
Punjab Kingsā chase began in explosive fashion, taking 21 runs off the first over from Deepak Chahar. Although MI briefly struck back through Afghanistanās Allah Ghazanfar, removing Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly, the momentum quickly shifted.
Prabhsimran Singh played a blistering unbeaten knock of 80 off just 39 balls, punishing anything loose and continuing his rich form. At the other end, Shreyas Iyer produced a captainās innings of 66 off 35 balls, his third consecutive half-century of the season.
The duo stitched a devastating 139-run partnership for the third wicket, effectively ending Mumbaiās hopes. Iyer was particularly dominant, repeatedly finding the boundary and even launching a towering six off Shardul Thakur.
Jasprit Bumrah endured another difficult outing, finishing wicketless and leaking 41 runs, as Mumbaiās bowling attack failed to contain Punjabās aggressive approach.
