Apr. 24—ATHENS — Wyatt Wallace tossed a complete game, striking out 10, as Lindsay Lane opened the Class 2A state baseball playoffs with a 5-1 win over Pisgah on Thursday.
Playoff series are best 2-of-3 with a doubleheader played on day one and an if-necessary game played on day two.
Wallace was dominant for seven innings for the Lions, allowing just one earned run on two hits. He threw 68 of 96 pitches for strikes and issued just two walks.
Offensively, Wallace helped his own cause by going 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. Grayson Miller had a single and one RBI, while Hampton Wallace added one RBI. Bryson McMcMullin had two singles.
The Lions punched their ticket into next week's second round with a 16-1 win in the series finale. Lindsay Lane advances to play the winner of the series between Cold Springs and Cleveland.
Miller had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and four RBIs to lead Lindsay Lane, while Cooper Abernathy and Fin Reding added two hits and three RBIs each.
L.T. Thornton singled twice and drove in two runs and McMullin had three hits, including a pair of doubles. Miller pitched four innings for the win, allowing one run on two hits with seven strikeouts.

Doner homered, singled and drove in four runs as Elkmont secured the sweep with a big win in game two. Jeffrey Barnes doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Red Devils, while Schrimsher, Jayden Newmann and Brock Ferguson added one hit and two RBIs each.
Brady Turner went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Clements.

Ethan Barnes, Gavin Butler and Jake Banta had two hits and one RBI each for the Trojans and Ryan Faust pitched all six innings for the win, allowing one run on six hits with one strikeout.
Lynn scored 11 runs in the third inning of game two en route to evening the series. The two teams will meet in a decisive game three Friday.
Banta doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Athens Bible in the finale, while Micah Gwin added a hit and one RBI.
