PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – Non-conference matchups ruled the high school sports landscape on Saturday in Central Illinois.
Normal Community, Dunlap, Washington, and Tremont picked up wins in baseball. At separate softball tournaments, Metamora, Pekin, Brimfield earned victories.
In girls soccer, Notre Dame shut out Dunlap 6-0 at Kick Out Cancer Night. Ava Lafollette earned a first-half hat trick for the Irish.
Washington and Normal Community soccer engaged in a fantastic back-and-forth battle for the first 60 minutes of their match. The Panthers led 1-0 at half and then traded two goals to start the second half.
But in the final 20 minutes, Washington struck for not one, not two, but five goals to pull away late to a 7-1 win.
Metamora edged out a win in their boys track meet while Eureka took the girls title. Central Catholic’s Isaiah Whitaker dominated the pole vault.
Illinois State football held their annual spring football game with Team Red winning 23-20 in overtime.
