Manske was the No. 2 rated player coming out o the state of Iowa. He is one of the players who had originally committed to Iowa State but followed Campbell to Happy Valley.
Alex Manske only appeared in three games at Iowa State in his true freshman season in relief of Rocco Becht. He completed four of his five pass attempts for 28 yards and also rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. In high school, he nearly three for 5,000 career passing yards and threw just ten interceptions.

Manske's depth chart outlook almost certainly depends on how he continues to recover from injury. Dealing with an unspecified medical incident, Penn State fans have still not yet gotten the chance to see Manske in action as the presume QB2. As a result, Connor Barry took the bulk of snaps in spring practice and surprised all of the coaches with his development. Should Barry continue to impress, Manske, through no fault of his own, could continue to sink down the depth chart.
Alex and one of his high school teammates converted a garage into a weight training room in hopes of being recruited by Iowa State. Needless to say, it worked out.
