Prince William was right there in the stands, celebrating as his favorite soccer team secured a spot in a major European final. The heir apparent has been a devoted fan of Aston Villa F.C. since his school days and has often been seen attending their high-profile matches.
Following his latest appearance, some on social media have praised him for being humble enough to mingle freely with the fans.
For its crucial semifinal match on Thursday night, Aston Villa had the support of the future king of England, cheering the team on from the stands. During tense moments, William was seen gesticulating passionately as the players pushed toward victory.
At one point, he also hugged his fellow high-profile attendees around him after a goal scored by Argentine midfielder Emiliano BuendĂa. The princeâs excitement continued after the match ended in a 4-1 aggregate win for his team, as he visited the locker room to celebrate with the players.
This was confirmed by manager Unai Emery during a press interview held afterward, per BBC.
âHe was in the dressing room with the players, and with me, and of course, he is so happy as well,â Emery said.
Williamâs latest appearance only reinforced his reputation as a hands-on and dedicated supporter rather than a distant royal observer.
On X, fans who watched clips of him during the match shared how refreshing it was to see him blend in with supporters and openly celebrate the clubâs victory.
âHRH cannot be a better person. How lucky is this country to have him. Amazing values and [a] good heart,â one fan wrote.

Williamâs decision to back Aston Villa has long been viewed by many as unusual, especially given the number of bigger and more successful clubs he could have chosen to follow.
The prince previously explained the reasoning behind his choice during a 2015 interview with the BBC. At the time, he revealed that he began supporting Villa during his school days because he wanted the emotional experience that came with backing a club outside the usual dominant sides.
âA long time ago at school I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans, and I didnât want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams,â William said.
âI wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments,â he added.

Beyond seeking the emotional highs and lows that come with supporting a football club, Williamâs decision to follow Aston Villa is also tied to the clubâs rich history in English football.
The prince once reflected on Villaâs FA Cup clash against Bolton Wanderers in 2000.
Although his team eventually lost that yearâs final to Chelsea, William said the experience left a lasting impression on him because of the atmosphere created by the supporters, as well as the sense of unity and connection he felt during the occasion.
âIt was fantastic. I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time,â he said.
âIt was the atmosphere, the camaraderie, and I really felt that there was something I could connect with,â William added.

At times, Williamâs support for his boyhood club has extended beyond simply cheering from the stands. According to former Villa forward John Carew, part of the reason he completed his move to the club in 2007 was because of encouragement from the Prince of Wales after the pair first met in Norway.
âHe convinced me to move there in 2007. For three consecutive seasons, I scored double figures in the Premier League,â Carew told Gazzetta dello Sport.
âHe admired me. In 2019, we watched the play-off final against Derby County together at Wembley, which secured our return to the Premier League,â he added.
