The San Francisco 49ers need their 2026 NFL draft class to deliver, with projections for each of the eight picks outlining realistic ceilings and floors. Contributors are essential, and the analysis assumes all players will make the roster.
The San Francisco 49ers badly need their 2026 NFL draft class to produce. Finding a star or two in the group would be ideal, but in the immediate they just need a few contributors from their eight-player class.
We ran through their eight selections and settled on a realistic ceiling and floor for each pick. We also chose floors on the assumption each player will make the roster. The obvious floor for any draft pick is one where they don't make the 53-man roster out of training camp. If the player misses out on the roster then their floor or ceiling matters less to us, so we're operating in this exercise like each player will be on the team in some capacity.
Here's how things shook out:
There's a ton of variance for Stribling who brings a ton of size and speed to a position where the 49ers are lacking players with those qualities. Whether he has the receiving chops to get snaps in his rookie season remains to be seen. If he does, he could quickly ascend to a vital role in the 49ers' passing game.
Ceiling: No. 2 wide receiver
Floor: Special teams contributor
Height doesn't have quite the same level of variance as Stribling because his ceiling isn't as high. However, if the 49ers could pick one of the two to hit their rookie year ceiling it would probably be Height who should be a significant factor in San Francisco's pass rush rotation. If he can't win pass rush reps he could find himself as a healthy scratch due to a lack of versatility along the defensive front.
Ceiling: Situational pass rusher
Floor: Healthy scratch
If Black wins the backup RB job and Christian McCaffrey is unavailable, the No. 90 overall pick from this year's draft could find himself as the lead back in San Francisco. If he doesn't win the backup job he'll likely be relegated to special teams duty.

Ceiling: Starting running back

Halton isn't probably going to push for a starting job on a crowded defensive line. He should push for snaps and a key rotational role right away. With so many defensive tackle options on the roster there's a real chance he's a gameday inactive if he doesn't hit the ground running as a rookie.
Ceiling: Rotational defensive tackle
Floor: Healthy scratch
The 49ers are already in the process of moving Willis to the interior after he spent his college career playing offensive tackle. If he excels right away it could thrust him into the starting left guard conversation. If he has a ton of development to undergo the team would probably choose not to suit up him.
Ceiling: Starting left guard
Floor: Healthy scratch
Prysock is one of only a couple draft picks with a real shot at starting without an injury ahead of him on the depth chart. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that his size and athleticism are enough to make him a Day 1 starter in the NFL. He'd have a tall hill to climb to get there, and a more likely outcome is that he's active and running around on special teams on gameday. There's certainly a chance he doesn't do enough to earn the nod to suit up for games. though.
Ceiling: Starting cornerback
Floor: Healthy scratch
Chances are Dugger is at least active on game days to play on special teams. He's big and fast with enough athleticism to potentially be a terror on kick coverage units. However, there's an opening in the 49ers starting LB corps and he brings more size and speed than any of their other options. If he can quickly learn a new position he may well find himself as a regular piece of the 49ers' base defense.
Ceiling: Starting Sam linebacker
Floor: Special teams contributor
It would be a small surprise if the developmental offensive tackle prospect from Kansas carved out any kind of significant role in his first year. He's the player with a "healthy scratch" floor where hitting that floor in Year 1 wouldn't feel like a disappointment on some level.
Ceiling: Reserve OT
Floor: Healthy scratch
