The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly considering a blockbuster trade to acquire two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers. This deal could involve multiple top 100 MLB prospects and aims to strengthen their starting rotation alongside Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Proposed blockbuster Dodgers trade sees Los Angeles deal multiple MLB top 100 prospects for $400 million two-time Cy Young to pair with Yoshinobu Yamamoto originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ quest for a threepeat has started off strong, with an MLB-best record of 13-4 and first in the NL West. However, they have had one problem in their two championship years, and that’s the fragility of their starting rotation, aside from Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Getting a stud workhorse to pair with Yamamoto could make them unbeatable. Sport’s Illustrated’s Ryan Shea proposes they do that by finally trading with the Detroit Tigers for their two-time Cy Young, Tarik Skubal.
The trade would look like this:
Dodgers get: LHP Tarik Skubal
Tigers get: MLB No. 12 overall prospect OF Josue De Paula, MLB No. 22 overall prospect OF Zyhir Hope, MLB No. 83 overall prospect SS Emil Morales, MLB No. 100 overall prospect RHP River Ryan
“The Dodgers would make this trade because they are in full win-now, championship-or-bust mode as they attempt to three-peat, and adding a proven superstar ace gives them the best possible chance to extend their dynasty. Tarik Skubal is widely viewed as one of the best starters in baseball, a two-time Cy Young Award winner and a pitching Triple Crown winner, with elite command, strikeout ability, and consistent dominance at the top of a rotation,” McAvoy wrote.
So far this season, Skubal is starting another Cy Young campaign, with a 2-2 record, a 2.22 ERA, 23 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.945 over 24 innings pitched. Put him atop an already stellar Dodgers rotation, and L.A. can pretty much claim they’ve assembled the greatest starting rotation ever.
The Dodgers could really break baseball by re-signing him, as he is projected to receive at least an eight-year, $300 million deal, and some are projecting he could receive up to $400 million.
If the Dodgers pull this off, they’ll have assembled the greatest team in history. And it will probably be the main reason for the anticipated lockout.
