Pros, cons of Las Vegas Raiders picking Tennessee's Jermod McCoy in 2026 NFL Draft
Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy was selected No. 101 by the Las Vegas Raiders to start the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft on April 25 after a notable fall over concerns about his knee injury.
McCoy was projected as a first round pick, perhaps as the first cornerback selected. But he has not played in a game since the 2024 season because of a torn ACL he suffered during a training session in January 2025.
He ran well in pre-draft workouts, but it wasn't enough to convince a team to pick him on Day 1.
Here’s what McCoy brings to the Raiders based on his career with the Tennessee Vols.
Initially, McCoy was considered perhaps the No. 1 cornerback in the 2026 draft class. The 6-foot-1, 188-pounder checks every box in terms of athleticism, ideal size, speed, technique, instincts, competitive drive and performance.
However, McCoy’s major drawback was a torn ACL, which he suffered during an offseason training session at his home in Texas. It sidelined him for the entire 2025 season, so his last college game was against Ohio State on Dec. 21, 2024, in the College Football Playoff.
McCoy hoped to play for Tennessee in the 2025 season. He did light individual work at a UT practice in early August and continued to rehab. But he never played in a game for the Vols again.
At Tennessee’s pro day, McCoy ran the 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds, which would've tied for the second-fastest time among cornerbacks at the NFL scouting combine. He recorded a 38-inch vertical jump and 10 feet, 7 inches in the broad jump.
Jermod McCoy fell in the draft due to concerns about a knee injury, specifically a torn ACL that has sidelined him since January 2025.
Jermod McCoy was selected in the fourth round as the 101st overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Before the draft, Jermod McCoy was projected to be a first-round pick and potentially the first cornerback selected.

McCoy was an under-recruited high school player who didn’t spend much time on the prospect camp circuit. Instead, he played baseball, ran track and spent time at wide receiver.
But once McCoy moved to cornerback on a full-time basis, he blossomed into an impact player at Oregon State and an All-American at Tennessee.
NFL scouts see a wide array of elite skills in McCoy’s game. He has fluid hips, ideal size, good instincts, a competitive demeanor, sound fundamentals, an explosive twitch and elite ball skills.
His weaknesses are technical nitpicks, highlighting why he’s projected as a first-round pick. For example, NFL.com’s scouting report said McCoy “struggles to stay in phase against speedy route benders” and “displays some indecision on zone switch-offs.”
McCoy’s glaring question mark was his knee injury. His pro day performance appeared to assuage concerns, but questions resurfaced just before the draft.
McCoy played two college seasons and missed the 2025 season with the ACL injury.
In 2023, he had 31 tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions at Oregon State. He transferred to Tennessee, where he turned into an All-American and All-SEC performer and semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award in 2024.
McCoy had 44 tackles, nine pass breakups and four interceptions for the Vols in 2024 as an integral part of a team that made the College Football Playoff. Two of his interceptions were in the end zone, and he allowed only one TD pass in 640 snaps. He ranked ninth among FBS cornerbacks with an 89.6 coverage grade by Pro Football Focus.
