In 2022, he was a freshman All-American who led Kentucky with 50 catches for 628 yards. He ranked fourth in the FBS in kick return average (16 returns, 27.5 yards, TD).
Here's a quick look at the pros and cons on drafting Brown.
Brown’s an instant speed addition. He ran a 4.4 40-yard dash at the NFL combine and could immediately help a team as a return specialist.
His NFL Draft combine score is a 5.86, according to NFL.com, which equates to an average backup receiver or special team player.
His six career kick returns are an SEC record. He returned three for scores as a sophomore at Kentucky in 2023.
Brown was an eight-time TSSAA track and field state champion in high school at Pearl-Cohn.
Brown isn’t considered an elite route-runner. He’ll have to increase his technical skills as a receiver to make an impact on offense.
Inconsistency with deep-ball tracking and winning position with the ball in the air are key weaknesses, according to NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein, who also noted Brown’s hand-eye coordination isn’t up to speed.
But Brown has the ability to be electric.
In 2023, he was the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl MVP for Kentucky with three catches for 100 yards, one rushing touchdown and a 100-yard kickoff return TD.
Brown’s an exciting player with his speed and could carve out a star role on special teams.
He might be a longer shot as a receiver, due to the technical skills that scouts see him lacking. Brown wasn’t a deep TD threat in college, so an NFL team will have to help him develop those traits.
But you can't teach someone to run a 4.40, and Brown's been sprinting in that range since high school.
