Ravichandran Ashwin called upon the BCCI to introduce a DRS reversal rule in IPL after Punjab Kings were denied a run on the last ball of the innings against Mumbai Indians on Thursday evening in Dharamshala.
On the final delivery of Punjab's innings, Vishnu Vinod was struck on the pad by a low full toss angled into the off side by Jasprit Bumrah. The on-field umpire raised the finger.

Punjab reviewed the call and Ball Tracking confirmed that the impact was outside off stump. Subsequently, the dismissal was overturned.

But here is where the problem lies. Under the current rules, when a batter is given out, and the ball does not hit the bat, no leg bye can be awarded even if the review successfully overturns the decision.
The run that would have counted as a leg bye was not given. Punjab lost a run they should have had, despite winning the review they used.
Ashwin did not hold back on X. He argued that the wrong call had directly cost Punjab a run and demanded the BCCI act immediately rather than wait for the ICC to address the issue.
He wrote: "The wrong decision has cost Punjab a run, this rule needs to change ASAP! Just like how the âIMPACT SUBâ is an IPL rule, the DRS reversal should also be brought into the IPL even if the ICC delays it for some reason. #MIVPBKS #IPL."
The controversy aside, Punjab Kings put together a competitive total of 200 for 8. Prabhsimran Singh led from the front with a 32-ball 57, while Azmatullah Omarzai played a brilliant cameo of 38 off just 17 balls.
For Mumbai, Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler with four wickets for 39 runs. Deepak Chahar took two, while Corbin Bosch and Raj Bawa each claimed one.
Ashwin is right. A team winning a review should not be punished for it.
The whole point of DRS is to correct mistakes, and a system that overturns an incorrect dismissal but still withholds a legitimate run has a fundamental flaw in it.
There is no reason for the BCCI to wait for an ICC directive when a simple, fair fix is available right now.
