WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue men’s basketball plans to take advantage of an NCAA rule change and play on foreign soil this summer.
Unlike some past excursions, this one will not take the Boilermakers all that far from home.
Purdue is finalizing details for a series of games in the Vancouver, Canada, area in late July, IndyStar has learned. The team would play around four games against Canadian university teams over an 8-to-9 day period, along with some non-basketball team activities.
Teams previously were limited to only one foreign summer event every four years. The NCAA’s Division I Cabinet, on the recommendation of the men’s and women’s basketball oversight committees, recently removed that restriction. Teams can now play outside United States borders every year.
