Racing Louisville FC's ownership group is exploring selling a stake in the club to an outside investor, according to a May 12 report from ESPN.
Soccer Holdings is looking for additional investment to help keep Racing competitive in the National Women's Soccer League as other clubs continue to grow, ESPN reported. The outlet cited multiple sources who were granted anonymity because they are "not authorized to speak publicly about the matter."
When reached May 12 by The Courier Journal, a spokesperson for Racing said the club does not have an "equity partner" lined up, and if an investor is approved, Soccer Holdings would not intend to to sell its controlling interest in the club or relocate it to another city.
"As the NWSL experiences unprecedented growth, Soccer Holdings is constantly evaluating strategic opportunities to ensure Racing Louisville has the resources to compete at the highest level," club officials said in a statement.
"We're coming off the club's first-ever trip to the playoffs and have assembled a competitive young roster that just last weekend knocked off the league's first-place team," the statement continues. "We believe in Racing's future and invite our community to join us at Lynn Family Stadium in support of Louisville's only top-tier professional team."
Sources also told ESPN that NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman is aware of Soccer Holdings' interest in a partial sale of Racing. NWSL officials have not yet responded to a request for comment.
