Radio host Marc Bertrand criticized Cora's message.
Boston Red Sox fans were majorly split on the decision to fire longtime manager Alex Cora. Cora did not exactly change the minds of those in favor of his departure when he posted on X that he was simply "happy" to be out of Boston.
One Red Sox fan who took particular offense to the post is radio host Marc Bertrand of 98.5's "Zolak & Bertrand."
"The fact that Alex Cora is happy about being fired, in my mind, validates the firing!" Bertrand yelled. "Oh, you're happy to be fired? Good! Get out!
That means you were part of the problem!"
Even the most adamant defenders of the 2018 World Series-winning manager can agree that the post was at the very least passive-aggressive.
The decision to fire Cora was made around the same time his team fell to 9-17 on the year. Bertrand believes that, whether or not he is to blame for the record, this message alone confirms that he didn't handle the season properly.
"It means you were sour on the situation. You were pissed off, and you were angry, and you would prefer to get fired over continuing to manage the Boston Red Sox," Bertrand said. "So to me, that in and of itself is a bad sign... that he was happy to be fired.
"Oh, okay, you're happy? Good. Good. Then they were right to fire your a--! Get out, you are part of the problem, not the solution here."
Even as a Cora fan myself, Bertrand perfectly summed up the disappointment I felt in seeing that post. Whether or not the offseason played out the way he wanted it to, the post reflected the attitude the Red Sox played with in the first month of the season.
