NBA Playoff Recap: Knicks and Wolves Advance, 76ers Force Game 7
East Greenwich boys lacrosse defeated Portsmouth 6-5 in a defensive showdown, overcoming a two-goal halftime deficit. Goalie Brendan Darcey made crucial saves to secure the win.

If defense wins championships, then what the East Greenwich boys lacrosse team did in the second half Thursday shows itâs more than prepared to win one this spring.
Last spring Portsmouth beat the Avengers with an offensive onslaught in the Division II title game. This yearâs rematch â the first since the meeting at Brown University â was all about defense and on Thursday, EG was better. Trailing by two at the half, the Avengers held the Patriots scoreless over the final two quarters and pulled out the 6-5 win.
East Greenwich came into the game undefeated and left that way thanks to a stellar effort from its defensive unit and goalie Brendan Darcey, who was spectacular when it mattered most. Fter three saves in the first half, the senior netminder was unconscious in the second half and made eight saves to keep Portsmouth off the board.
It was quite the second half for the Avengers. Thanks in part to two goals from Rafferty Dionne, the Patriots held a 5-3 halftime advantage. East Greenwich tied the game in the third quarter after scores from Wyatt Gelzhiser and Micah Dawson. In the fourth, Cooper Lake played the role of hero with the go-ahead tally that Darcey made sure stuck.
Gelzshiser and Dawson both scored two goals in the win. Austen Dufresne had the other EG tally.
Dionne scored a pair for Portsmouth. Joe Sanderson, Colby Nixon and Aiden OâConnor had the other scores for the Patriots. Jack Colna made 10 saves in the loss.
Molly Ganim, Lincoln Softball
Molly Ganim and Kayleigh Gouchie kept the Patriots guessing and the Lions took the runs that were handed to them in a 6-2 win.
East Greenwich won the game against Portsmouth with a final score of 6-5.
Goalie Brendan Darcey was the standout player, making a total of 11 saves during the game.
East Greenwich held Portsmouth scoreless in the second half, showcasing a strong defensive performance.
This victory kept East Greenwich undefeated and marked a successful rematch against Portsmouth after losing to them in the previous year's title game.

In a a battle of two of the divisionâs best teams, pitching and defense proved to be the difference. Lincoln (11-0) scored two runs in the first inning on a wild pitch and passed ball before Chloe Landryâs single made it 3-0. In the sixth, the Lions added another run on a passed ball and then got two more on a two-run single by Lucia Whyte.
The insurance runs werenât needed. Ganim got the start and went 4 1/3, giving up two runs and striking out 11. Gouchie came on in relief and shut the door on any comeback hopes Portsmouth (6-3) had, giving up two hits and striking out six to earn the save.
Whyte finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI. Brooke Tillson scored twice in the win.
Emily Bronson had two hits and scored one run for the Patriots and Evelyn Schmidt and Kaylyn Aubuchon both had one RBI.
Two Mariana Xavier home runs that didnât come in a seven-run second inning helped power the Cougars to a 12-1 win over the Huskies.
North Providenceâs offense came to play, getting a tying run in the first before pouring on seven runs in the second inning with RBI singles from Xavier and Olivia Geib-Ayala and a bases-clearing double from Gabriella Grossi.
Xavier found a power stroke late, hitting a two-run homer in the fourth and her two-run shot in the fifth allowed the Cougars to walk-off with the win via the 10-run rule. She finished the game 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs.
Geib-Ayala finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and threw five innings, allowing five hits with six strikeouts. Grossi had two hits and drove in three runs, Makenna Heon scored three times and Elizabeth Ricci scored twice in the win.
Sofia Haberman had a nice day in defeat, going 2-for-3 with one run. Lily DaSilveira also had two hits for Mt. Hope and drove in the lone run.
Leanna Garcia, Cranston East Softball
The Thunderbolts only needed two turns at the plate to make quick work of the Kilties in an 18-1 win.
Cranston East gave up one run to start the game, but took advantage of Mount Pleasant miscues and piled on nine runs in the bottom half. In the second, the Bolts matched the feat and the game ended after the top of the third via the 15-run rule.
Skylah Belmont-Gomez and Aniah Parker both scored three times and drove in a pair of runs for Cranston East. Allyssa Diggert had two RBI and scored twice. Leanna Garcia, Angelina Saing, Bryanna Morales and Alice Billings each scored twice and drove in one run in the win.

The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Clippers answered with six runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
Cumberland starter Brody Stenovitch earned the win for Cumberland as he went the distance giving up seven hits, two runs, with 3 Ks and no walks.
Zachary Blanchard was key to the offense as he reached base three times as he walked twice, had one hit and drove in two run.
Brian Abbruzzi had two hits for Mt. Hope and teammate Will Francis had one hit and drove in two runs in the loss.
Ashton Wheeler, Toll Gate Baseball
The Titans matched their number of runs with 13 hits in this game, with Braeden Geerand Ashton Wheeler leading the way with three hits each. Brady Fales and Edward Rosario drove in two runs each for Toll Gate and Geer stole three bases.
Fales started on the mound for Toll Gate and surrendered five hits and two runs over five innings. He struck out nine batters and walked three.
Colby Schreiber went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the Vikings with a run batted in. Kieran Moore led Rogers with two hits in three at bats from the leadoff position.
Van Martin, East Greenwich baseball.
Van Martinwas nearly impossible to keep off the bases, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs as he paced the Avengers on Thursday.
Nolan Collucci went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in, and both Tyler Gecawichand Caiden Souzacollected a pair of hits for the visitors.
On the mound, Anders Nelsonthrew four innings, striking out seven and allowing just one hit. Relievers Keyan Zahedi and Ayaan Modi finished the final three frames.
The Mariners were paced by Max Downey (1-for-3) who drove in a run, and Drez Owensand Finley Hohl, who both collected a hit and run scored in the loss.
Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jordan Plante's groundball was mishandled and Julian DeJesus raced home to lift the Novans to a walk-off home victory. DeJesus, the designated runner on second base to start the extra inning, had advanced to third on a Ty Chhournsingle.
DeJesus was also Woonsocket's starting pitcher, and his dash home earned him the W after he struck out 10 batters over eight innings, scattered four hits an allowed just one earned run.
Cesar Vazquez Jr. led the Novans, going 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs in the win.

The Rams rolled to a 17-0 halftime lead and never let up, clinching their fifth win of the season, and remained undefeated against in-state opponents.
Lachlan Gotled the way with five goals and two assists; Nick Looscored four times, and Quincy Marinoand Tanner Poirier each recorded a pair of goals in the win. Marino also had three assists and two caused turnovers.
Charlie Rodehorst scored a goal, caused two turnovers and had three ground balls.
Dylan Fitzgeraldwas 17-for-17 in faceoffs, and Bruce San Bentowas 9-for-9 in faceoffs.
Crusaders captain Christos Stefanopoulos led the way with four goals, and teammates John Gaffney and Ryan Samponaroeach scored three times as Prout handled the Chargers. Maddox Keramidasadded two goals in the win.
Chariho's Ben Holtscored a game-high five goals in the loss.
Wyatt Gelzhiserand Micah Dawsoneach netted two goals, and Austen Dufresne and Cooper Lakescored as well as the host Avengers edged the Patriots.
Portsmouth got a pair of goals from Rafferty Dionne in the loss.
In net, Brendan Darcey made 11 saves in the win for EG, and John Colnamade 10 saves for Portsmouth.
Caleb Williams, Westerly boys lacrosse
Caleb Williams led the way to the victory for the Bulldogs with six goals in the game. The other three goals were scored by Brayden Antoch, Jacob Macera and Ian Morissette. Brock Crowley had an assist, as did Evan and Ian Morissette.For the Islanders, Joshua Cascio scored twice. Grayson Hawkins and Matthew Stevens had a goal apiece. Hawkins and Alexander OâShea had one assist each.Westerly goaltender Alex Mynuk had 10 saves while Middletownâs Corey Chiodo stopped 16 of 27 shots.
Ellsie Freitas, La Salle Girls Lacrosse
Down by two goals at the half, the Rams rallied back to outscore the Crusaders by six goals in the second frame and came away with the victory.
Leading the way for La Salle was Lily Peters, who had seven goals and one assist. Ellsie Freitas and Brinley Freitas also figured heavily in the win with Ellsie scoring three goals and adding two assists and Brinley also scoring three goals with one helper.
No stats were provided by Prout.
Casey Macera was the high scorer for the Bulldogs with six goals. She also had two assists. She got help from Gianna Falcone, who tallied three goals and an assist. Phoebe Brennan and Ella Seltzer scored two goals apiece. Isabella Falcone and Alyssa Fizzano chipped in with a goal apiece.For the Huskies, Margaret Thorp led the way with two goals and Audrey Cummings scored one.
Addie DeMarzoand Hailey Duggan each netted four goals, and Madelyn Vorromade seven saves as the Oakers handled the Cougars in quick fashion.

Aggerson Vetiaque, Cranston East boys volleyball
The Thunderbolts Aggerson Vetiaque and Jordan Frisone were dominating at the net with 23 and 18 kills, respectively, and teammate Alex Negran was good for 16 digs as upended the Falcons.
Despite the loss, CW had some strong performances from **Ashton Mak (**16 kills, 2 blocks, 17 assists) Eli Lopez (15 kills, 4 digs) and Henry deLa Zerda (25 digs, 1 ace, 1 kills, 3 assists).
Cooper Amaralhad 41 assists, five digs and two aces to set the pace for the Rams (24-26, 25-17, 25-14, 25-19). Flavio Tavares contributed 19 kills, three blocks and 12 digs and Jayden Simao had 29 digs.
For the Chargers, Reid McCann had 11 kills, Jaxson Vachon had five kills and two aces and Kasey Poplaski tallied 22 assists and three kills.
Ian Nascimentoled the Purple with 15 kills, three blocks and an ace, Caden Pinahad eight kills and two blocks, and Ryan Francoisrecorded eight digs in the win (18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-15).

Dylan Shaw paced the Huskies with 19 kills, a pair of blocks and 10 digs. Jackson Gouldhad six kills and a pair of blocks, and Matt Moran had seven kills and three blocks in the win (25-27, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18, 16-14).
For the Saints, Jaymeson Taylor led the way with a game-high 20 kills and 10 blocks, and Cameron McVeighhad eight kills in the loss.
