East Greenwich boys lacrosse team overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Portsmouth 10-8. This victory follows their previous win against Portsmouth earlier this season.

It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish and the East Greenwich boys lacrosse team is hoping to finish the season like it did on Thursday night.
Trailing Portsmouth at halftime, the Avengers flipped the scoreboard in the third quarter before taking control of the game in the fourth in a 10-8 win over the Patriots.
The two teams met in last year’s Division II title game – won by Portsmouth – and in the rematch on April 30, which East Greenwich won, 6-5, that kept them undefeated.
May has not been as kind to the Avengers, who followed the win with losses to Westerly and Division I Pilgrim before bouncing back with wins over Prout and Middletown.

Portsmouth was ready for this match and the first half was a defensive battle, with the Patriots taking a 4-3 lead thanks to second-quarter goals from Rafferty Dionne and Luke Brandariz.
East Greenwich came out for the second half ready to go and took a 6-5 lead on long-pole goal by Charles Butterfield. Dionne got another to tie the game, but Cooper Lake’s tally gave the Avengers a 7-6 lead, one it wouldn’t give up. EG opened the fourth quarter with a goal from Brady Parks to make it a two-goal lead Portsmouth couldn’t come back from.
Austin Dufresne scored the first goal of the game and had the final tally as part of his four-goal night. Parks and Wyatt Gelzhiser both scored two goals and Butterfield and Lake had the other two scores. Brendan Darcey made eight saves in the win.
Dionne led Portsmouth with five goals. Joe Sanderson, Teddy Gersen and Brandariz had the other scores and Jack Colna made seven saves in the loss.
The final score was East Greenwich 10, Portsmouth 8.
East Greenwich won their previous match against Portsmouth 6-5 earlier this season.
The game was a rematch of last year's Division II title game, which Portsmouth won.

The win improved East Greenwich to 11-2 overall and bumped it to second in the Division II RPI standings. The Avengers return to action Saturday at Cranston West and could take over first place with a win Monday at Westerly.
Portsmouth dropped to 12-3 with the loss and is in third in the Division II RPI standings. The Patriots close the regular season with a home game against Middletown Monday before traveling to play Division III Mt. Hope on Wednesday.
John Gaffney, Prout Boys Lacrosse
The Crusaders celebrated Senior Night with a 17-4 victory over the Falcons. Christos Stefanopoulosand John Gaffney each had five goals, and Christian Dowling was 7-of-8 on faceoffs. Maddox Keramidas added three goals and Liam Arnold scored a pair in the win.
Joseph Testa scored twice for Cranston West in the loss.
The Crusaders improve to 6-10 with one game left to play.
The Vikings took control of the game early and finished just as strong to roll to an 18-5 win over the Tigers.
Freshman Quin Green had Rogers humming in the first half and it took a 9-3 lead that only grew as the team shined on both ends of the field.
Green led the Vikings with six goals and fellow freshman Brady McCombe scored six. Jay Northup and Conor Anderson both scored twice and Will Spring, Kimani Monteiro, Keivan Rivera and Luke Mathews scored one apiece.
Tiverton’s five goals came from five different players – Shane Aguiar, Sergio Almeida, Quinn Dasuta, Bodhi Gerlach and Easton Hardwood – and Christian D’Acchioli made 24 saves in the loss.

Casey Macera, Westerly Girls Lacrosse
The Bulldogs' Casey Macera found the back of the net seven times and assisted on two other scores in Westerly's win over the Falcons. Also contributing to the victory wereGianna Falcone with 3 goals and two helpers, Ella Seltzer scored twice and Macy Antochand Alyssa Brennaneach scored one goal.
Cranston West's Ashley Budanoscored four goals, Zoe Budano recorded two goals andEmily Kodzis scored once in the loss.
Lainey Nelson, Scituate Girls Lacrosse
Goals were tough to come by, but the Spartans found a way to pop a few in the net while their defense made sure to not allow the Tigers to do the same in a 6-1 win.
Scituate had a dominant defensive first half, as goalie Lainey Nelson and Co. held Tiverton scoreless while the offense found four goals. The defense continued to control the game in the second half and two goals put the finishing touches on the win.
Maelie Bowden led the Spartans with two goals and Kennedy Hayle, Grace Jacavone, Arianna Fotopoulos and Althea Selby had the remaining scores. Nelson made seven saves in the win.
Avery Craig scored the lone goal for the Tigers in the loss.
Division II
Mt. Hope 9, Lincoln School 8
The Purple put on a showcase against the Falcons in a quick sweep.
Classical grabbed its second consecutive victory with a 25-23, 25-17, 25-20 triumph in just over an hour against Cranston West. After Classical showed some grit by winning a close first set, Ian Nascimento took over in the second frame. The senior had a string of kills that broke open the set and gave the Purple a quick lead in the match.
Senior setter Jet Lin kept the offense going in the third stanza as the Purple are gearing up for a playoff run. Classical entered last season’s Division I tournament as the third seed and made the quarterfinal before getting knocked out by Hendricken.
They’ll likely be the seventh or eighth seed in a few weeks, but are a dark horse to pull off an upset in the second round.
Eli Lopez had eight kills and six digs in the loss. Ziyue Wang added 10 kills and four digs.
Cam Gates led the Avengers with 22 kills and two aces, and Rainen Paquet had 51 assists in the victory.
No Chariho stats were provided.
Brighton Champagne led the Saints to a victory that almost got away from them (25-21, 25-12, 24-26, 21-25, 15-12). He had 15 kills, a block, seven aces and 12 digs. Jaymeson Taylor contributed 13 kills, four blocks, two assists and 13 digs.For the Kilties, Jeremias Ixcuna amassed 40 assists, four kills and seven digs. Anthony Berroa helped out with 21 kills and 12 digs.
The Broncos were led by Grant Godzwan who had 10 kills and 22 digs in the straight-sets win (25-15, 25-13, 25-14). Cayden Closson had three kills and 15 assists and Omar Espinal recorded 20 digs in the victory.
For Achievement First, Emmanuel Vargas Rodriguez had six kills and a pair of aces, Sebastian Fernandez had five kills and 10 digs and Emmanuel Vargas Rodriguez had six kills in the loss.
