The Los Angeles Rams selected tight end Max Klare from Ohio State in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. This follows their surprising first-round pick of Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson instead of a receiver.
The Los Angeles Rams took tight end Max Klare, who comes out of Ohio State, in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Rams had a stunner in the first round, taking Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson rather than a receiver like they were expected to take.
With Matthew Stafford healthy and in the fold for the upcoming season, drafting a quarterback at No. 13 instead of a player who can immediately be panned as a questionable move, though Simpsonâs development and play will be the ultimate determinant.
While taking a non-contributor in the first round, the Rams circled back to give Stafford a new toy to play with in Klare.

He is not an explosive athlete like Ferguson, but rather is smoother and more refined, with real toughness in the middle of the field and a solid route-running ability.
Klare has soft hands and a good, not great, athletic profile. He is not as good a blocker as the rest of the Ramsâ tight end room, but he has a good deal of potential and fits the modern NFL game.
However, like Tyler Higbee, Sean McVay has experience taking pass-catching tight ends with a good physical profile and turning them into serviceable-to-good blockers, and Klare has the potential to become just that.
The Rams love a tight end that can block in the running game and then run quality play-action routes.
Klare, while needing more work to help in the run game, can already be a true safety blanket for Matthew Stafford and potentially even more so by the time Ty Simpson takes over.
