Rams offense in 13 personnel rivaled 2007 Pats and 2018 Chiefs in EPA

The Los Angeles Rams offense was great in 2026, but the team was almost unstoppable in 13 personnel.

According to ESPN's Bill Barnwell, the Rams had a 0.22 expected points added (EPA) per play when they had three tight ends on the field this past season. For reference, the Rams average 0.14 EPA per play throughout the 2026 season.

To put that in context, the only offenses since 2017 to average that much in terms of EPA per snap over a full season were the 2018 Chiefs and 2020 Packers. The 2007 Patriots, one of the greatest offenses in NFL history, averaged 0.24 EPA per play. The 13 personnel Rams weren't far behind.

This is quite the compliment for the Rams, who found a niche in utilizing heavy personnel to give their offense a huge on-field advantage throughout the year. L.A. saw huge production from tight end Colby Parkinson, who broke the franchise record for a tight end with eight in 2025. Rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson added 11 receptions for 231 yards and three scores, veteran Tyler Higbee caught 25 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns and Davis Allen had 24 receptions for 208 yards and three touchdowns.

Expect more 13 personnel in 2026 for L.A. after the team drafted Ohio State tight end Max Klare in the third round and didn't add a receiver until the sixth round.
