Rams snapped this 9-year RB streak in the 2026 draft

Following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft, it was confirmed that the Los Angeles Rams broke a recent draft trend. For the first time since 2017, they didn't select a single running back. That snaps a streak of nine years in a row selecting at least one running back.

The 2017 draft, the first in the Sean McVay era, did not see the Rams make a running back selection, as the team already had Todd Gurley. It's similar to this year, as both Kyren Williams and Blake Corum are set to take most of the running back carries, while any remaining are likely to be divided up between Jarquez Hunter and Ronnie Rivers.

From 2018-2025, the Rams selected a running back in each selection process. In 2018, the Rams drafted John Kelly. In 2019, it was Darrell Henderson Jr. In 2020, it was Cam Akers. In 2021, they took Jake Funk. In 2022, it was Williams. In 2023, they drafted Zack Evans. In 2024, it was Courm. And Hunter was the selection in 2025.

Williams is the only running back drafted in the McVay era to ever record a 1,000-yard season. He has a current streak lasting three seasons, so he'll look to make it four in 2026.

The Rams were linked to Jeremiyah Love as a team that could potentially trade up for the Notre Dame star, but he went third overall to the Cardinals. Los Angeles didn't spend any of its five picks on the position.
