The Texas Rangers made a few big moves this offseason, with the trade of Marcus Semien for Brandon Nimmo working out great so far this year.
They've also made a big move to upgrade the starting rotation, acquiring a lefty starter from the Washington Nationals for a strong prospect haul.
That move, as USA Today's Bob Nightengale noted, was a move in which the Rangers "struck gold." The reason is clear: this new starter, MacKenzie Gore, has a 2.76 ERA to begin his Rangers tenure.
"The Texas Rangers struck gold with their MacKenzie Gore trade," Nightengale writes. "Gore, who was 5-15 with a 4.17 ERA and 185 strikeouts in 30 starts for the Washington Nationals, is pitching like a Cy Young candidate with the Rangers."
The new Rangers lefty has been dominating this season, with a 2-0 record across three starts with a 2.76 ERA. In 16.1 innings pitched, he's struck out 25 batters and has a WHIP of 0.857.
His 13.9 strikeouts per nine innings is the most in the American League this season, and is a good indicator of how good he's been this year.
