MLB teams will always tell you that they want to pick up a win on what they call “getaway day." A victory secures a happy flight to their next destination.
The Texas Rangers no doubt will have a happy flight after using a ninth-inning comeback to get a 9-6 win against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, Calif., and secure a series split.
With the win, the Rangers' record improves to 10-9 on the season.
The Rangers were the first team to the scoreboard as Brandon Nimmo laced an RBI single in the third inning to put Texas up 1-0.
In the fifth inning, Jake Burger came through with a sacrifice fly to double the Rangers' lead and make it 2-0.
However, it wouldn’t take long for the Athletics to respond. In the bottom of the fifth, shortstop Jacob Wilson ripped a game-tying, two-run single against Texas starter Jack Leiter.
Just batters later, Carlos Cortes also came through with an RBI single to give the A’s their first lead of the afternoon.
Those three runs would be the only ones that Leiter surrendered, putting forth a solid start, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while walking three and striking out three.
In the sixth, Josh Smith tied the game with a double to left field. In the seventh, connected on his first home run of the season to put the Rangers ahead 5-3.
The final score was 9-6 in favor of the Texas Rangers.
The game took place at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, California.
After the victory, the Texas Rangers' record improved to 10-9.

There’s no doubt that Jung’s home run was aided by the crazy winds in West Sacramento that pushed the ball just over the right-field wall into the Athletics' bullpen.
In the bottom of the eighth, the A’s delivered what looked like a tough blow as star first baseman Nick Kurtz delivered a huge three-run double to give his team a 6-5 lead heading into the ninth.
However, just as the Rangers have done so many times this season, they battled back in the late innings.
Kyle Higashioka forced an error on a bunt that led to the tying run coming into score, and then Joc Pederson gave the Rangers the lead with an RBI single.
Just minutes later, Ezequiel Duran provided some huge insurance runs with a two-run single to make it 9-6.
Cal Quantrill came out of the bullpen to earn the save in the ninth, making his first appearance as a Ranger and his first relief appearance since 2021 and earning his second MLB save.
