Cubs Minor League Wrap: Owen Ayers breaks out in Smokies win
Owen Ayers hits first Double-A home run in Smokies win!
The Atlanta Falcons selected cornerback Avieon Terrell from Clemson in the 2026 NFL Draft, addressing their need for cornerback depth. Despite his solid college stats, Terrell has a below-average RAS Score of 4.94, indicating concerns about his size and speed.
At long last the Atlanta Falcons have finally made their first pick in 2026 NFL Draft. They decided to make it a family affair, drafting the younger brother of star cornerback A.J. Terrell, Avieon Terrell out of Clemson.
Cornerback depth was one of Atlanta's needs coming into the draft, although it is a little surprising they hit it this early rather than more-pressing positions like nose tackle and wide receiver.
Terrell (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) has solid ball skills, with three career interceptions to go with 25 pass breakups. He also posted eight forced fumbles, four sacks and nine tackles for a loss in 39 career college games, all with the Tigers.
Terrell isn't exactly a high-level athlete, though. According to his RAS Score, he only comes in with a below-average 4.94, with poor grades for size and speed.
While athleticism certainly doesn't hurt in the NFL, Terrell wouldn't be the first or the second DB to make a great career for himself despite a low RAS score. Tyrann Mathieu's was even lower and he managed to earn three All-Pro honors and win a Super Bowl.
That said, Terrell has his work cut out for him. He'll have to earn his spot but being taken this early means the Falcons fully expect him to start either in the slot or on the boundary opposite his brother some day.
