But the moment turned around for the young girl and her family when Bass delivered a new baseball right to her seat at the stadium. Watching from the broadcast booth, Freed said, "When youâre seeing something wrong has occurred, itâs nice to make up for it, and Ryan Bass making up for that Cleveland fan by going out and making friends. And she deserves that baseball.â
Freed also revealed that during a commercial break, the girl's brother approached the man and asked him to "reconsider" stealing the ball, to no avail.
âIt was an interaction that was uncomfortable to watch,â commentator Brian Anderson said, adding, âYou felt embarrassed for the guy.â

"You all watched the man steal the ball from my daughter. You know my son went to ask him for the ball, which was so brave. I just have to say thank you to Tampa for broadcasting it, when Cleveland broadcast cut to puppies rather than show the man stealing the ball from a child."
She continued: "I cannot thank Ryan and Tampa enough for making things right. Thank you all for looking out for ALL young baseball fans. It is top notch sportsmanship. My daughter and I cried happy tears. I am so proud of my kids for how they handled tonight, and so proud of Tampa and its fans for standing up for my child."
DeVore said the "pressure" other fans put on the adult fan "resulted in the man giving her the home run ball back 4-5 innings later towards the end of the game" and continued in her post: "It wasnât the same but we appreciated him doing the right thing. But we appreciate all of you even more. Thank you all for helping prevent my husband from catching an assault charge after the game! (kidding, kind of)."
DeVore also thanked Rays fans "for caring about my little girl you've never even met" and said she "cannot show enough gratitude to all who stepped up to make her night" in the post.
In another post, DeVore added that she does not support the doxing of the adult fan who stole the ball.
"Also, please stop calling for doxing, etc, and join me in calling for it to end when/if you see it. My children would not want that. If they can forgive this dude, then surely other fans/adults can," she said. "We all appreciate a good joke and meme, but trying to ruin someoneâs life over this is a bit extreme and I wish I had seen how bad it had gotten on other platforms like X/twitter sooner."
