The Tampa Bay Rays might not have the best odds to win the World Series this year, but they're still 16-11, second place in the AL East, and have a realistic shot to make the postseason.
Despite the team's lower budget, the Rays have some of the best players in the sport. Yandy Diaz is an elite hitter, and Chandler Simpson is very exciting, but the true superstar of the roster is obviously Junior Caminero.
Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden, for The Athletic, is urging the Rays to make a huge commitment to Caminero and sign him to a long-term extension without any reservations over wasting money.
"He's willing to sign a long-term contract, and despite the Rays being burned the last time they agreed to that type of deal (Wander Franco), Caminero is the right player for the Rays to make that commitment to," Bowden writes.
Tampa Bay signing Caminero to a long-term deal would be ideal for this team. While they might not spend the most, especially compared to the New York Yankees, they are still a competitive team, and shouldn't let all of their stars go.
Jim Bowden believes that Junior Caminero is a superstar and that the Rays should invest in him without hesitation.
Junior Caminero is considered the true superstar of the Rays' roster and is pivotal to their success this season.
The Tampa Bay Rays are currently 16-11 and in second place in the AL East.

At some point, the Rays have to keep a star or two around for the long haul, and Caminero seems to be the player to make such a deal with.
"Signing him now to keep him under team control through his first couple years of free agency would be well worth it for the Rays," Bowden writes.
Last year, Caminero was an All-Star with 45 home runs and 4.4 bWAR on the year. 846 OPS. This season, through 27 games, he has eight home runs with an .845 OPS.
The breakout year was real, and his production to begin the 2026 season is proof that the Rays should be looking to ink a long-term deal with the Rays' 22-year-old infielder.
He's currently under club control through the 2030 MLB season, but if the Rays could find a way to sign him through the 2032 or later season, such a deal would be well worth it.
It's rare to find a player who is this good at such a young age. And while their last big deal didn't work out, this is the kind of player the Rays should open the bank for, as Caminero is not someone this team can afford to lose.
