The Baltimore Ravens have exercised the $27.2 million fifth-year option on WR Zay Flowers, securing his role in the offense through the 2027 season. This move highlights the team's commitment to building around their young offensive talent.
The Baltimore Ravens have officially exercised the $27.2 million fifth-year option on Pro Bowl wide receiver Zay Flowers, solidifying his place as a cornerstone of the Lamar Jackson-led offense moving forward. The decision ensures that one of the league's most dynamic young playmakers remains under team control through the 2027 season, giving Baltimore continued stability and explosiveness at wide receiver.
Flowers has quickly developed into a top target and trusted weapon, showcasing elite route-running, burst after the catch, and big-play ability since entering the league in 2023. His chemistry with quarterback Lamar Jackson has been evident, elevating Baltimore's passing attack and adding another dimension to an already dangerous offense. By locking in Flowers early, the Ravens not only reward his production but also send a clear message about their commitment to building around their young offensive core.
With the NFL draft fast approaching, we're examining the economics behind the Ravens' decision to pick up Zay Flowers' fifth-year option. What it means for negotiations on contract extensions, and when that long-term deal could happen.

From a financial standpoint, Baltimore is essentially locking in a premium offensive weapon at a cost that could look team-friendly within a year. With the wide receiver market continuing to surge, the Ravens are betting that Flowers' trajectory will outpace the price tag, making this a forward-thinking investment rather than a short-term expense. The move also buys Baltimore some time on a long-term deal.
From an economic perspective, this move gives the Ravens flexibility and leverage. By avoiding early extension negotiations, Baltimore maintains cost certainty while allowing the market to further define itself around other elite receivers. It also preserves cap space in the near term while keeping a core playmaker tied to quarterback Lamar Jackson. If Flowers continues to ascend, the Ravens will either have a bargain for 2027 or a stronger negotiating position on a long-term deal—making this a low-risk, high-upside financial play that aligns with the franchise's disciplined roster-building philosophy.
Flowers has a $2,664,060 guaranteed salary for 2026, year four of his contract, and thanks to the $14,036,440 in total guarantees for his first four seasons, coupled with the $27.2 million for 2027, Flowers will have earned close to $42 million in his first five years, and the Ravens are still hopeful for a contract extension.
Flowers had a breakout season in 2025 with 86 catches for 1,211 yards and five touchdowns to secure a second straight Pro Bowl selection. Flowers is the only wide receiver in franchise history to earn that distinction. A comparable recent deal would be former Ohio State star Garrett Wilson. Wilson, the 2022 NFL Draft's 10th overall pick, received a four-year, $130 million extension, averaging $32.5 million per year with $90 million of guarantees, from the Jets last July. Flowers is far more accomplished, and that's a likely starting point for a contract extension, with JSN being the ceiling.
A Florida native who was somehow overlooked and attended Boston College, Flowers has been efficient and highly productive at the start of his career. During his first three seasons, the 2023 first-round pick has recorded 237 catches for 3,128 yards and 16 touchdowns and ranks 10th in receiving yards and 13th in catches among wideouts since entering the league.
Because Flowers is a two-time Pro Bowler, his fifth-year option is $27,298,000
Flowers is among the biggest stars in the NFL after accounting for 85 catches, 1,211 yards, and five touchdowns. As it stands, that salary would put Flowers and George Pickens tied for the 12th-highest paid at the position.
