Borussia Dortmund reflects on a successful season, finishing second in the Bundesliga with 73 points. The team is optimistic about the future, citing strong performances and contract extensions for young players.
Reactions: “We’ve had a very good season”
(in the mixed zone): “It was a well-deserved victory, which we secured with confidence. We had plenty of chances to score. After a bit of a dip in form, we’re ending the season on a high with three wins from four games, and we’ve managed to build up a bit of anticipation for what’s to come. These wins, the way they were achieved and the contract extensions for the young players show that we’re heading into next season with courage, confidence and anticipation. When the manager arrived, we were 11th in the table. Now we’re second and want to fine-tune things together so that next year might be even a bit better, although that’s obviously difficult with 73 points. It was the fifth-best season in Borussia Dortmund’s history – you could even win the German title with that. But unfortunately there’s another team that has performed significantly better in terms of points…”
Ole Book (on Sky): “The best season in a long time – the best defence, the fewest goals conceded. That defensive solidity is worth highlighting. And we’ve also achieved a lot in attack. Today’s win was well deserved and therefore a fitting end to a good season. Now we’re fully focused on preparing for the new season.”
Julian Ryerson (in the mixed zone): “In terms of points, it was a good season for us in the Bundesliga. 73 points is a decent tally. Unfortunately, the gap is a bit too big, but we can build on that. We’ve got ten days off now, so we can recover a bit – and it’s also very important for our mental state. And then I’ll be looking forward to the World Cup even more.”
Waldemar Anton (on Sky): “We’ve had a very, very good season. We were in the mix for long stretches and achieved the goal that was still possible: finishing second. That’s the main thing. Nevertheless, we had completely different goals, but we didn't manage to finish first. But Bayern have had an outstanding season; we mustn’t forget that. Congratulations to Bayern. We’ll be back at it next season.”
