Real Madrid among top clubs able to activate Schlotterbeck's summer release clause
Nico Schlotterbeck recently signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund running until 2031.
However, he could still leave the club at the end of the season, as the deal reportedly includes a €60 million release clause that becomes active this summer and is limited to a select group of top clubs.
Sky Germany now reports that Real Madrid are among the teams eligible to activate the clause and that FC Bayern Munich are not included in that group. The Spanish capital club have consistently been mentioned among the German international's suitors in recent months.
Dortmund supporters expressed their frustration with the clause at the weekend, booing Schlotterbeck when the starting lineup was announced ahead of Saturday’s 0-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
The 26-year-old centre-back joined Dortmund from SC Freiburg in the summer of 2022 for €20 million. Since then, he has made 156 competitive appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing 18 assists.
Nico Schlotterbeck's release clause is set at €60 million.
Real Madrid is among the select top clubs that can activate Schlotterbeck's release clause, while FC Bayern Munich is not included.
