Real Madrid midfield mainstay to miss Bayern Munich second leg through suspension
It was already a painful night for Real Madrid after their 1-2 defeat to Bayern Munich, but the fallout from the game has made matters even worse.
With the Champions League quarter-final finely poised, Los Blancos have now been handed a significant blow ahead of the return leg in Germany.
The issue centres around Aurelien Tchouameni, who will miss the decisive second leg in Munich on April 15 due to suspension.
The French midfielder picked up a yellow card during the first half at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, ruling him out of one of the most important matches of Real Madridâs season.
The booking came following an incident involving his international teammate, Michael Olise.
As Bayern pushed forward with intent, Tchouameni was penalised for pulling the winger, who proved to be a constant threat down the right flank throughout the match.
As such, Bayern executed their game plan effectively and left Madrid with a valuable advantage heading into the second leg.
However, much of the post-match discussion has centred on the refereeâs decision rather than the result itself.

Tchouameni did not hide his frustration when speaking after the game, clearly baffled by the caution that now sidelines him for the return fixture.
âI was just running, and then I donât know what happened. The referee decided that, because there were many fouls, he had to show a yellow card.
âBut honestly, I donât understand it,â he said.
Manager Alvaro Arbeloa shared similar concerns, questioning both consistency and decision-making from the officials during the match.
He pointed to another controversial moment involving Kylian Mbappe, suggesting there was a lack of clarity in how incidents were judged.
âTchouameniâs yellow card? I donât know what the referee saw there. And why didnât he show the red card after the foul on Mbappe?â
That sense of injustice could linger as Real Madrid prepare for the trip to Munich.
Without Tchouameni, the midfield setup will need rethinking, especially against a Bayern side that has already shown its ability to exploit space and control transitions.

Aurelien Tchouameni will miss the second leg because he received a yellow card in the first half of the first match at the Santiago Bernabeu. That booking triggered a suspension for the return game in Munich on April 15.
Tchouameni's absence is a major setback because Real Madrid will have to rethink its midfield setup for a crucial Champions League quarter-final match. Bayern already showed they can exploit space and control transitions, so losing a key midfielder makes the task harder.
