Real Madrid midfielder has a point to prove heading into Bayern Munich clash

With the race for the La Liga title looking increasingly one-sided, Real Madrid will shift all their attention to this midweek’s Champions League tie against Bayern Munich.

The Spanish giants will have to overturn a one-goal deficit at the Allianz Arena against a Bayern team that has looked one of the best in Europe under Vincent Kompany.

Naturally, to achieve this goal, Real Madrid require all their top players to showcase top form, including Jude Bellingham, who has endured yet another difficult campaign.

Bellingham’s unfinished business against Bayern

Few opponents have caused Bellingham as much pain as Bayern Munich.

Wednesday’s match will be his 12th career encounter against the Bavarian giants, and his record is far from ideal. He has tasted eight defeats, two draws, and just one victory across those appearances.

Although all these defeats will have hurt, perhaps none more so than his final memory as a Borussia Dortmund player, when Bayern snatched the Bundesliga title from Dortmund’s grasp on the final day of the 2022-23 season.

This denied Bellingham a fairytale send-off before his move to Madrid.

His only victory against Bayern came in the Champions League semi-final two seasons ago, when Joselu’s two goals in the final two minutes produced one of the most dramatic turnarounds in recent European history to send Real Madrid to the final.

Now, Bellingham faces the prospect of facing Bayern Munich once again, a game where he is expected to start after struggling with injuries for the better part of the season.

The Englishman’s qualities, including his ability to make those darting runs into the box, could come in handy for Real Madrid, as they look for the biggest victory of their season.
