Real Madrid will turn to 19-year-old homegrown talent if veteran star leaves – report
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are already preparing for a possible change at right-back, with Jesus Fortea identified as a key internal option should Dani Carvajal leave next season.
Carvajal’s contract expires on 30 June and no decision has yet taken place regarding his renewal. The club is aware that it must be ready to act if the right-back departs, and Fortea represents a solution that would not require entering the transfer market.
The 19-year-old starlet is viewed as a footballer with significant potential and the ability to step into the first team. As such, if Carvajal leaves, he could take on a supporting role behind Trent Alexander-Arnold, gradually gaining experience at the highest level.
As per the report, Real Madrid do not currently see many convincing options in the transfer market to replace Carvajal. As a result, they are leaning towards promoting from within, with Fortea emerging as the leading candidate.
This approach would also respond to calls from supporters for a stronger commitment to the club’s academy system.

Fortea is viewed as a long-term successor to Carvajal, offering continuity in the position for years to come. It aligns with the club’s broader planning strategy and avoids the need for significant transfer expenditure.
Another homegrown right-back, David Jimenez, has already featured with the first team this season and even started against Valencia under Alvaro Arbeloa.
However, since then, Fortea has moved ahead in the internal hierarchy as the more likely candidate to replace Carvajal.
Within the club, the teenager is seen as having similarities to Carvajal, particularly in his ability to cover the flank and contribute to attacking play while maintaining a high level of intensity in defensive situations.
Any decision regarding Fortea depends on Carvajal’s situation in the coming weeks.
